After seventeen years on the faculty of Pomfret School, Mitch Pinkowski joined the faculty of Episcopal High School in the Washington, DC area. At Pomfret he served as the Chairman of the English Department for ten years and has been teaching AP Literature for fifteen years.
Mitch attended Deerfield Academy, Emory University, and St. John’s College’s Graduate Institute. He lived for five years in Saudi Arabia as a youth and has traveled to more than 30 countries and all 50 of the United States. He also lived and taught in Japan. Over the past decade, he earned literary research grants that allowed for his eclectic travels. Such sponsorship allowed for a voyage throughout France and Spain to retrace the plot line of Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises, a journey to Japan to explore the works of Basho, Dazai, Soseki, and other authors, and Dublin, Ireland, to retrace Joyce’s Ulysses. He has received several notable awards for his teaching and continues to explore literature across the globe.
