Welcome to the Great Books Summer Program. We invite you to come in and look around to see how Great Books could be a part of your summer. If you are interested in literature, debate, discussing ideas and having fun with other like-minded people then this is the camp for you.

While at Great Books you will have the opportunity to;

~ Work with college professors and top educators.

~ Take part in an art elective: visual art, creative writing, music or theater. You can choose a different elective each week that you are with the program.

~ Be a part of a "pod" - a group of 6 - 8 students who read and spend time together in serious pursuit of fun!

~ Experience life on a college campus. You will live in the dorms, eat in the cafeteria, learn in lecture halls, and become familiar with these iconic institutions.

~ Meet a Guest Speaker - each week we host a visit by a guest author, poet or other literary luminary. You will have a chance to hear them speak, ask questions and even meet them afterward.

~ Take part in a very diverse learning community. Last summer we welcomed students from 43 states and 23 countries.

~ Make friends and have fun!

We look forward to seeing you at Amherst or Stanford this summer.

"I am deeply impressed by many aspects of this program, including the warmth and professionalism of the staff, the rigor and creativity of the curriculum, and the physical beauty of its setting. But what impresses me most, are the students themselves."

Dr. Debby Applegate, Pulitzer Prize-winning author

"Every summer, all I have to do is mosey on down from my hilltop home overlooking Amherst College, and walk into an ongoing conversation about the Big Stuff. It always feels like an intellectual transfusion."

Dr. Joseph J. Ellis, Pulitzer Prize-winning author

"I will mark Amherst as my most memorable event of the year, simply because of the smartest and most generous kids I was surrounded with. I wish they could be my students forever..." "

Da Chen, award-winning, best-selling author

"What a terrific curriculum and an enthusiastic group of young people. Made me want to drop everything and sign up."

Barry Eisler, best-selling author

"The students were such an engaged and smart and interesting group. I really enjoyed talking to them but mostly just appreciated being asked such a varied array of questions. It was a lot of fun."

Jacob Lewis, former managing editor of The New Yorker magazine and co-founder of Figment.com
