A number of special features set the multiple week sessions apart from the one-week program. First, students who come for two or more weeks will be able to experience entirely new academic content each weekly session they attend—new readings, fresh lectures and unique speakers and guests.
Also integral to the multi-week programs are the weekend excursions. Taking place on the Saturday in between sessions, all campers head out to an exciting location for a day trip.
These trips at Stanford have included visiting Muir Woods to view redwood trees and appreciate California's natural beauty, a trip to the eerie The Winchester Mystery House, a day at the Exploratorium, one of San Francisco's best museums, and Cannery Row.
Amherst students have visited Boston and walked the Freedom Trail, explored Salem and the House of Seven Gables and even visited Concord and took a dip in Walden Pond.
The program at Oxford University, in England, will have a uniquely designed array of excursions around the city, a day trip to London, a trip to Bath and a trip to the Royal Shakespeare Company to see a featured performance.
Extended programs provide the opportunity for students to forge lasting friendships and immerse themselves more fully into the community. Please visit the program pages for more information about the benefits of multi-week sessions for students in the Intermediate and the Senior Program.
The Great Books Summer Program offers two-week and three-week sessions for students at Stanford University and two-week, three-week and four-week sessions for students at Amherst College. Oxford is a two week session.
