A number of special features set the multiple week sessions apart. First, students who come for two, three or four weeks will be able to experience entirely new academic content each session they attend—new readings, fresh lectures and unique speakers and guests.
Also unique to the multi-week programs are the weekend excursions. Taking place on the Saturday in between sessions, all campers head out to an exciting location near their campus. We are still working on this year's excursion plans. Both locations will offer exciting Saturday programming for students to enjoy.
In past summers our students at Stanford have visited the Monterey Peninsula including Cannery Row and The Monterey Bay Aquarium. They also visited the California Academy of Sciences and took in an Oakland A's game. At Amherst, students visited Boston to see the Mapparium, visited Harvard, and took part in other cultural adventures. Trips were also planned for a day in Salem, and a Western Mass excursion featuring a visit to Tanglwood to see Garrison Keillor.
Extended programs provide the opportunity for students to forge lasting friendships and immerse themselves more fully in the great books and big ideas of our program. Please visit the program pages for more information about the benefits of multi-week sessions for students in the Intermediate and the Senior Program.
The Great Books Summer Program offers two-week and three-week sessions for students at Stanford University and two-week, three-week and four-week sessions for students at Amherst College. |
