The Joseph J. Ellis Scholarship for American History
The Joseph J. Ellis Scholarship for American History is presented by Great Books Summer Program. This scholarship fully supports two students for one-week sessions at our Amherst Program.
This scholarship is offered in honor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning historian and longtime friend of GBSP, Joseph H. Ellis. In addition to being one of the nation's foremost scholars of American history, Joe continues to share his knowledge of history and his love of learning at the classroom level. It is in recognition of his ongoing commitment to education and his contributions to the Great Books Summer Program that we present this award.
Recipients for these full one-week scholarships to the Amherst Program are selected based on a minimum 500-word essay in response to the following prompt:
- Choose an important figure from American history and explain the importance of the role that person played.
Applicants who do not receive the Ellis Scholarship will automatically be considered for General Financial Aid.
