Great Books will hold orientation for students each Sunday leading into the session to get to know their pod mates, meet their Program Assistant, and prepare for their first classes.

*Students will be assigned the 1pm or 3pm session and broken into smaller groups for reading and academic mentoring with their Program Assistant.

Themes:

July 12 - July 17: The Philosophy, Physics, Poetics, and Psychology of Time - Of course we "know" about time, but what, really, is it? During this week, we'll explore how philosophers, poets, physicists and psychologists try to answer the question - and still manage to leave it strangely unanswered.
July 19 - July 24: Moral Dilemmas - How do we know what is right, what is just, what we should do? During this week we’ll examine these and other moral dilemmas and see how others have addressed them from ancient times to the present, while raising how YOU would answer them.
July 26 - July 31 - Other Minds - The apparent gap between human and other lives has provoked enduring questions among writers, scientists, and philosophers: To what extent are human and animal minds similar or different? Do animals, and increasingly robots, deserve rights?
